Timeline of What to Expect

This is a rough sketch of the activities throughout the school year. Events may be added or deleted at the director’s discretion.

May:

§ Band Camp packets distributed to students via Drum Major.

June/July: Marching Band/Color Guard

§ Phone calls from drum majors, section leaders

§ Receive marching band music

§ Practice your music

§ Occasional drum line and color guard meetings

August: Marching Band/Color Guard

§ ~1.5 – 2 weeks band camp for the entire Marching Band & Color Guard
(generally beginning the first full week of August)

§ Family barbecue on last day of band camp with show performance

§ A few rehearsals in the remaining week(s) of August

Monthly (September thru June) – Band Parent meetings –

§ 3^rd Tuesday of the month, 7:30pm, in the AHS Band Room

September: Marching Band/Color Guard

§ Home football game performances

§ Rehearsals throughout the month, possibly full day rehearsals on a few Saturdays

§ May have first field show the end of the month

§ Band Classes – students make audition tapes for WIBC or All-State/All-Northwest

October: Marching Band/Color Guard

§ Home football game performances

§ Rehearsals throughout the month

§ Field shows on Saturdays

November:

§ Marching Band/Color Guard -- beginning of November, last one or two field shows (depending on the year)

§ Western International Band Clinic (WIBC)

§ Wind Ensemble – Pops Concert

§ Jazz Band -- “Evening of Jazz” concert

December:

§ 9^th grade and new students receive cummerbund/bowties

§ Orchestra/Concert/Symphonic/Wind Ensemble – Winter Concert

January:

§ Students prepare for District Solo/Ensemble Festival

§ Pep Band – basketball season

February:

§ Pep Band – basketball season

§ Combined concert – 8^th grade/Wind Ensemble

§ District Solo/Ensemble Festival

§ District 48 Wind Ensemble Festival

§ Jazz Band festivals (Feb.- March) -- varies year-to-year

§ Spring Musical orchestra pit rehearsals

March:

§ Various Wind Ensemble festivals

§ Wind Ensemble auditions

§ Spring Musical

April:

§ Metro League Wind Ensemble contest

May:

§ Orchestra/Concert/Symphonic/Wind Ensemble – Spring Concert

§ State Contests – solo, orchestra, band

§ AP (Advanced Placement) class testing

June:

§ Starlight or Rose Festival Parade

§ AHS graduation

A Big Trip is planned very 4 years:

§ The trip will be to California at the end of October 2004.
